The days are surely coming, says the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: “The LORD is our righteousness.” (Jeremiah 33:14-16)

Yes, surely the days are coming! I have already written my Thanksgiving reflection. And having done that, I am readying my spiritual thinking towards Advent – while my household is still in the planning stages of our Thanksgiving celebration. It is a weird feeling that first week – not quite Advent but looking past the pumpkin time. Actually, for Christmas (which is even further ahead!) I do not make pumpkin pie. I never considered that a liturgical choice, but maybe it is! But I digress.

The writer of the book of Jeremiah is also looking towards a time that is ahead; how far ahead I do not think he realizes. We know, though, it is in the distance. And many changes will come about before the “righteous Branch” will spring up. Let us, beloved reader, nurture that tiny sapling of faith and start looking towards the wondrous gift that we will celebrate again this year!
