Seeker: “Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people; from those who are deceitful and unjust deliver me!”

Preacher: Why are you so mournful, Seeker? Has the time of year stirred up fears and uncertainties? Has this long period of time that we have dwell under Covid-19 protocols worn you out? Or is there something else troubling your soul?

Seeker: It is all of that, Preacher, I guess. The words of the psalmist seem to speak for me. “For you are the God in whom I take refuge; why have you cast me off? Why must I walk about mournfully because of the oppression of the enemy?”

Preacher: You know there is no enemy that can take on and win against the Divine. While the battles and wars on earth may be raging, it is not the final battle. The powers and principalities will not win when the final battle commences. Until then we will just have to hold on. “O send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.”

Seeker: I know that to be true when the end times come. But how can I, how can humanity survive until then?

Preacher: “Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.”

Seeker: The refuge I find in the Lord God is true, and everlasting in my soul. And you right, when I am downtrodden I need to remember I can go to the Divine. But Preacher, not everyone takes their direction and guidance from the Divine. And quite honestly, those people engender more fear in me than the powers and principalities.

Preacher: Oh Seeker, you have identified a very pointed and poignant fact. And you are correct; even I fear those who seem to have no fear or reverence for the Divine.

Seeker: And therein lies the fear. And that is why I say with the psalmist, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me?”

Preacher: Seeker, take comfort in what the psalmist says after that. “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God.” (Psalm 43)

Seeker: We need each other, Preacher. Not just you and I, but every member of humanity needs other members of humanity, and it is especially those who DO take direction and guidance from the Divine that we need. The earth and the nations tremble when those who are in the earthly seats of control do not espouse a faith that was set down by Jesus Christ.

Preacher: We must hope, Seeker; and put our faith in the Lord God that people of good character and calling will come to the forefront so that our hope can be sustained.

Seeker: Shalom & Selah, Preacher, Shalom & Selah!
