Seeker: “Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes, and I will observe it to the end.”
Preacher: The Lord God, the Divine, will teach you Seeker. You will drink in the Divine’s wisdom and will show its beauty in measure to your faithfulness to Jesus Christ’s example and life.
Seeker: “Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.”
Preacher: Solomon was counted as wise because he sought understanding from his Lord God. May you grow in wisdom as the years give you experience. May sorrow not darken your soul, and may love and compassion gentle your ways and your human will.
Seeker: “Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it.”
Preacher: The commandments are valuable listen for all people every where. But if you obey only the strictest letter of the law and not the spirit & truest intent, your life will be hollow. Your best efforts to fill your soul will be a life long with struggle and disappointment.
Seeker: How am I know to know Preacher how to fulfill the commandments? I do not want a hollow life but one filled with good works and good deeds. Paul said works without faith and faith without works is not the goal. I have tried very hard to follow all of the laws of the Old Testament in light of the good news in the New Testament. How do I know, . . . how can I know, if I got it correct?
Preacher: “Turn my heart to your decrees, and not to selfish gain.”
Seeker: It is not for our own advancement or glory that we live, but for the chance to show love and compassion, as Jesus would, to others.
Preacher: “Turn my eyes from looking at vanities; give me life in your ways.”
Seeker: The Called & Chosen people were not called and chosen to be perfect but to live out the perfection of the Divine, through the guidance and direction of the Divine. It is when they thought they knew how to live apart from the Lord God that they got in trouble. And when they were apart from the Lord God, they got in trouble.
Preacher: “Confirm to your servant your promise, which is for those who fear you.”
Seeker: So the Lord God, the Divine, sent Jesus to gather them back up and expand the circle of faith to all who looked for instruction from the Lord God.
Preacher: “Turn away the disgrace that I dread, for your ordinances are good.”
Seeker: It is my fear of disappointing the Lord God that makes me question my life and my choices. But when I live out the faith that the Lord God has put in my spirit, then I will be pleasing to the Divine. My imperfection is made perfect through the salvation of Jesus Christ. I need not fear because the Holy Presence is ever before me, and the Lord God is there at the end of every road when I think I can no further. The Lord God beckons on, and I only need to follow that Light.
Preacher: “See, I have longed for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life.” (Psalm 119:33-40)
